The dancing sign guy…most people in Fort Collins know who this is even with the brief description. It’s Tim Farnsworth, also known as the M&E Painting Sign Guy, who dances and entertains drivers at the corner of Harmony Road and College Avenue.
After working a variety of jobs in the service industry, Farnsworth found his calling as a sign holder. He first started working in this capacity for Liberty Tax Service in Denver in 2008. He was then the Purple Muscle Guy for Anytime Fitness and advertised for them at the corner of 120th and Pennsylvania in Denver.
He joined the team at M&E Painting in 2009. His first sign holding job at M&E was at the intersection of 120th Street and Sheridan in Denver, and he moved up to Fort Collins and started working here two years ago.
Since the beginning of his career as a sign holder, he adopted his energetic dancing style to get people’s attention and to have fun himself.
“There were not a lot of people doing that (dancing). I wanted to do something to put some movement into it instead of just standing around with a sign,” said Farnsworth.
In his work in Fort Collins, it is obvious that drivers and passers-by appreciate his interesting approach to sign holding.
“I put a smile on their (drivers) faces. They like driving by me because I’m enthusiastic and don’t make it so boring to see,” he said.
If you’ve ever wondered what music he plays while working and dancing on the job, his favorites are artists like Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko, in addition to some underground artists.

In the future, Farnsworth would like to teach people about sign holding and how they can make it a career. Because of his success and popularity as a sign holder, Farnsworth has also been featured numerous times in Colorado news outlets.
“It’s a career, and I’m good at it. This is my place,” he said.
Farnsworth works year-round as the M&E Sign Guy and tries to work at least 30 hours a week. This, of course, depends on the weather.
Farnsworth added that he has appreciated his time working at M&E and that the company appreciates the work he does for them in brining clients to the company. He added that he was very grateful that the company recently sent him on a trip to Mexico because of his hard work.
“My boss really cares about his workers,” he said.
Originally from the Thornton area, Farnsworth enjoys living in Fort Collins, but, at times, misses his hometown. Outside of work, Farnsworth likes spending time with his girlfriend, hiking, seeing movies and playing video games.
